Right before Winter Break, two of my students came to me with an idea to start a Kindness Club. I told them to spend some time over break thinking of what the club would look like, the purpose, and what the members of the club would do.

When we returned from break, the girls, Kaylynn Wilcox and Maci Henkelman, presented their plan/ideas to me. They wanted to show kindness towards others, and encourage their peers to do the same. #Heartwork

The girls started their project by introducing the Kindness Catcher to their classmates. Students were to recognize their classmates for showing kindness to others by writing a small note. The note would then be placed in the Kindness Catcher envelope, then the following day, Kaylynn and Maci would read the notes and recognize those students.

Next the girls introduced Kindness Grams to the class. Students would complete a Kindness Gram for another student who showed kindness to them, and present it the following day.

Each week they introduced a new kindness activity to the class. The girls recruited other classmates to join the Kindness Club. Their efforts have increased the sense of community in the classroom. The students look forward each day to recognizing their peers for their random acts of kindness. Both the givers and receivers feel joy. #Makingkindnessnormal

I applaud these young ladies for their commitment to spread kindness and admire their leadership in this most important endeavor. #FHSDPride
